Spyware Defined:  Spyware has a range of meanings including but not limited to keystroke-loggers, malware, browser parasites, unsolicited commercial software, scumware, homepage hijackers, dialers, and trojan horses. Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer are the primary targets for most of these pests.

Windows Defender (free): Microsoft Windows Defender (Beta 2) is a security technology that helps protect Windows users from spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Known spyware on your PC can be detected and removed.

Trend Micro Housecall (free):  Scans, disinfects and eliminates over 90,000 viruses, worms and Trojans from all system devices, hard disks, compressed files and all your email folders.  This service is free and you don't need to install any programs.
